Descrição/Abstract
Marine turtles are migratory species with a global distribution. Worldwide, there are seven extant species of marine turtles that inhabit nearly all oceans and occupy broad geographical ranges (Wallace et al. 2010a). Populations nesting on beaches and feeding on waters of the African continent are globally significant with representative numbers of leatherbacks in Gabon (Fossette et al. 2008), loggerheads in Oman (Rees et al. 2010) and Cape Verde (Marco et al. 2011), greens in Guinea Bissau (Catry et al. 2002) and hawksbills in the Seychelles (Sheppard et al. 2012) and the Chagos Archipelago (Mortimer 1984; Sheppard et al. 2012).
