Report on the Conservation Status of Marine Turtles in Mozambique

MICOA

- Todas as Províncias

Five species of marine turtles occur and nest in the marine and coastal zones of Mozambique. Marine turtles possess high ecological, social and economic values, are considered symbols of biodiversity conservation and are protected under national legislation as well as international conventions. However, in Mozambique, marine turtles have received little attention in regards to research and conservation measures. This report is a review of the current state of knowledge and conservation of marine turtles in Mozambique, based on published and available literature. In general, marine turtles occur and nest throughout the Mozambican coastline, with a few areas of higher incidence.
